Dr. Rob Liwski is the Head of the Division of Hematopathology, Medical Director of the HLA Laboratory and Professor of Pathology at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre and Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He is also the Medical and Scientific Director of the HLA Laboratory at the Canadian Blood Services in Toronto. Dr. Liwski served as the Program Director for the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) Proficiency Testing Committee and is the Chair of the Canadian HLA Laboratory Proficiency Testing Committee and consultant to the Brazilian Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Association (ABHI) Proficiency Testing Committee.
Dr. Liwski has developed several optimized HLA antibody testing methods including the Rapid Optimized Single Antigen Bead (ROB) assay and the Halifax/Halifaster flow crossmatch protocols and has 70 peer reviewed publications. The Halifaster protocol has been adopted nationally in Canada, Brazil and Australia and by numerous laboratories around the world including in the USA, UK, Latin America, Europe, South Korea and the Middle East. He was awarded the Canadian Association of Pathologists Junior Scientist Award and the Doctors Nova Scotia Distinguished Service Award for his innovative work in the field of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.
Within ASHI, Dr. Liwski has been a member of the Proficiency Testing Executive Committee, Director Training Review and Credentialing Committee, ASHI Quarterly Editorial Board, ASHI Board of Directors and is Past President of ASHI.
