Dr. Mathew's research for the past 34 years has been in the areas of immune responsiveness and tolerance in clinical organ transplantation. The major thrust has been on the immunological effects of donor bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell infusions in transplant patients and on the development of biomarkers of clinical transplant tolerance. Other areas of investigations include how the immunosuppressive drugs currently used in clinical transplantation affect CD4+CD127-CD25High FOXP3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) and the use of polyclonally and donor-specifically expanded autologous Tregs for tolerance induction in clinical transplantation, autoimmunity and allergic diseases. However, current presentation is in relation to his activities as Editor-in-Chief and the status of ASHI’s official journal, Human Immunology.
